Bogolan is a typical African fabric. Like batik, it is made using a typically African fabric printing technique. The word Bogolan comes from the African Bambara dialect: BOGO = clay, mud, and LAN = with. The fabrics are submerged in different containers full of mud and then dried in the sun. These manipulations are done several times to obtain the desired color. Most of the time, bogolan is made with several strips of fabric that are then joined together. In the past, bogolan had particular meanings depending on the colors and patterns it bore. Currently, its use is more decorative; generally, it is hung on the wall, also used to cover tables or sofas, or simply as a rug, etc.
